Goal #1: make something happen
Indeed, something did happen. I met people, I created a performance that helped people meet other people. There have been 2 representations of the performance so far, and more are still to come. People have experienced the performance, either as spectators or as participants; I have left a mark in them. I have planted a seed.
Goal #2: Change something for the better
I found a problem inside Concordia University. I was a victim among many others. I created the performance to fill this need and help open doors otherwise difficult to open. I believe I have made the world a better place, and although this change may still only be on a small scale, it is just the beginning.
Goal #3: Make it sustainable
The performance is still too young to carry on without me. I will continue to nurture it not for the grades or the extra credits, but because I believe it has the power to change Concordia’s functioning to allow more interdisciplinary communication/action. The project will be able to stand on its own only once it will be firmly set between the walls of the university.
Although goal #3 has not yet been reached, I have already made a difference on a smaller scale: I know that once I leave Studio 7, the mentality I have set in this event will remain. Concordia’s contemporary dance department has already involved drawing thanks to me, I have seen paintings created during a choreography at a later Studio 7 evening, and more and more people are showing a greater interest for various disciplines. For example, lighting and sound technicians have demonstrated interest in being part of the project’s future. I have had the suggestion of bringing in live models as a part of the performance as well. I have also been personally invited to exhibit the project in a gallery at the Belgo building. Finally, it may become one of the numbers performed during the end-of-the-year graduating contemporary dance students’ show.
Honestly, I am very grateful to have had all this encouragement and help throughout the good and the bad, and I apologize for the times I lost faith in the project. Thank you.
To everyone: keep in touch! More is to come!
