Dance + Draw = Movement

Starting from movement, an element present in both dancing and drawing,
a relationship between art disciplines is constructed through an exciting performance.

The Encounter

I wanted a series of events to happen.

I decided to create something similar to the dancing in the 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony and  The Big Draw, focusing on inter-disciplinary encounters between people in a public environment. This idea was fortified when I met Alannah Krutina, at the time artist in residence of the Ctrllab (at 3634 St-Laurent). She showed me a few of her earlier works which captivated my attention: the beauty of the movement present in the works, the partially abstract bodies seemed to be dancing. I suddenly knew I wanted to give people the occasion to see and create movement through the mixing of drawing and dancing together.

I have a solid background in drawing, and know many others who do as well, but to me, dancing was almost alien. I needed a door into the contemporary dance department. I had little luck until I was referred to the DSA(Dance Student's Association) at Concordia. It was then that I discovered Studio 7.
